Two (2) Full-time Park Maintenance Mowing Technician II

                                Henderson County Department of Parks and Recreation
                                               

Duties and Responsibilities: This position performs a variety of intermediate semiskilled to skilled maintenance and repair tasks in the maintenance of County grounds, parks, and facilities; plans, organizes, and inspects the mowing of all county parks, performs related work as required; oversees use of equipment and supplies. Work is performed under regular supervision. Exercises limited supervision of park maintenance staff. Reports to the Parks and Recreation Director. There will 35-40 weeks of mowing grass at all HC Parks and 15 weeks of maintenance jobs in and around HC Parks. Works evenings, weekends as required for special events and emergency needs.
 

Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in maintenance of parks and grounds; methods and practices utilized in developing, planning, and promoting public parks, thorough knowledge of  general grounds maintenance; athletic field maintenance and preparation; thorough knowledge of building and safety codes and regulations related to park management and operations; general knowledge of the principles of construction; general knowledge of the physical layout of County buildings; ability to use tools and equipment in general maintenance and construction work; ability to operate and care for tractors, power equipment and power/hand tools; ability to operate computer and electronic equipment required for the position;  ability to read and interpret blueprints; ability to train, supervise and evaluate the work of others; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to safely and efficiently operate a motor vehicle; ability to attend work regularly.
 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of education and experience, equivalent to, graduation from high school and considerable experience in construction, building maintenance trades and/or landscape maintenance work.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Willing to obtain/possess a license issued by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture to apply pesticides and herbicides.

Pre-employment drug test and background checks required of finalist applicants.
